Who We Are
Scrap Silver Calculator is a free, independent tool built for anyone who owns silver — whether you have old jewelry in a drawer, a jar of pre-1965 coins, or a collection of bullion bars. We give you an instant, accurate estimate of what your silver is worth at today's live spot price, without having to call a dealer or guess.
We are not a dealer, broker, or investment adviser. We have no financial interest in whether you buy, sell, or hold your silver. Our only goal is to give you accurate information so you can make informed decisions.
Our Mission
Silver dealers and refiners have always had access to precise melt value calculations. Individual sellers — especially first-timers — often walk into a coin shop not knowing what their silver is worth and end up accepting whatever price they're offered. We built this site to close that information gap.
Every calculator on this site is built on the same formula professionals use: Weight (troy oz) × Purity × Live Spot Price = Melt Value. No guesswork, no hidden markups, no registration required.
What We Cover
Scrap Silver Calculator covers every major category of silver people encounter in the real world:
- Scrap silver — jewelry, flatware, and household items in 925, 800, 835, and other purities
- Junk silver coins — pre-1965 US dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars at 90% silver
- Silver bullion — bars and rounds from 1 gram to 1 kilogram
- International items — European 800, Britannia 958, and other global hallmarks
- Specialty formats — tola weights for South Asian and Middle Eastern markets, pennyweight for jewelry trade, and batch calculations for dealers
How Our Prices Work
We source live silver spot prices from multiple data providers including GoldAPI.io and metals.live, refreshed every 60 minutes via Vercel Edge CDN. The price displayed is the international spot price in USD per troy ounce — the same benchmark used by dealers, refiners, and commodity exchanges worldwide.
We are transparent about what our calculators show: melt value only. The actual price a dealer will pay you is typically 70–90% of melt value after their margin. Our Sell or Hold tool and Profit Calculator help you factor in dealer spreads and decide the best time to sell.
Who Uses This Site
Our users range from individuals cleaning out an estate or selling inherited jewelry, to collectors tracking their portfolio value, to small dealers who need a fast second opinion on a batch calculation. We also support 12 languages to serve the global community of silver holders — including South Asian users who work with tola weights and Arabic-speaking users in the Gulf region.
Accuracy & Limitations
We update our price data frequently and test our calculators against industry-standard sources. However, silver prices move continuously — the value shown reflects the spot price at the time of your calculation. For any significant transaction, we recommend confirming the current spot price with a second source and obtaining quotes from multiple buyers.
